The purpose of these guidance notes is to explain the background to the ECC, the reasons for some of its provisions and to provide guidance on how to use the contract.

Neither the flow charts nor the guidance notes are contract documents, nor are they part of the NEC family of contracts. They should not be used for legal interpretation of the meaning of the NEC main or the NEC sub contract.
