Issue No. 48 October 2009
Achieving Excellence in Construction - joint OGC/NEC event

Full programme confirmed, click here to download or here to book.

The UK Office of Government Commerce (OGC) is holding a joint conference

with NEC this winter to promote best practice procurement through its 'achieving

excellence in construction' (AEC) principles and usage of NEC3.

The one-day event will take place on Thursday 3 December 2009 in central

London. It is aimed at all those involved in procuring public sector construction

works as well as consultants, contractors and other suppliers engaged in or wishing

to secure public sector commissions.

Keynote lecture

The keynote lecture will be given by OGC chief executive Nigel Smith, after

which key OGC figures will introduce the AEC principles.

PSCCF, which brings together chief executives and commercial directors of the

UK's main public sector clients, unanimously agreed in December 2008 to move

towards a standard procurement approach based on the NEC3 suite of contracts.

Overcoming barriers

Peter Woolliscroft of Cyntra will then look at potential barriers to AEC and

how they might be overcome - including helping procurers manage their

projects according to NEC3 requirements. Cyntra is the UK's leading social

housing procurement consortium and provides NEC3-based construction services

to its members.

Other speakers include Mathew Riley of contractor Laing O'Rourke, who will

explain how NEC3 facilitates integrated supply chains; NEC Users' Group chairman

Rudi Klein, who will discuss the natural fit between NEC3 and project bank

accounts; NEC's original author Martin Barnes, CBE; and construction barristers

Edward Quigg together with James Golden.

Discounts for delegates

The event, which is followed by an evening drinks reception, will be chaired by

former NEC panel chairman Peter Higgins. The delegate cost is £295 and delegates

will be entitled to discounts on NEC products and services on the day.
