NEC contracts have been used in South Africa since the first edition was launched in 1993. Companies such as Eskom, Sasol and Transnet are well-known users of the NEC3 suite of contracts.
The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Act also recommends the use of NEC3 contracts for public projects, boosting its usage in the region.
The 2008-2014 infrastructure improvement project of the Wits University, in Johannesburg, used four different forms of NEC Contracts. NEC3’s collaborative approach was appointed as one of the key benefits of the contracts. Read full case study.
