Name of Project: Cornwall Growth Deal Infrastructure Improvements Package

Value: £60m

NEC3 contracts/options used: Option C (2 stage design and build) with X2,X5,X7,X15,X16,X18,Y(UK)2&3 and Option A (Professional Services)

Start-finish dates: September 2015 –December 2018 (works underway)

Main project team members: Cornwall Council, Cormac Solutions Currie and Brown

Project scope:
Cornwall Council has invested £60m in infrastructure improvements in Cornwall delivering 30 separate, complex schemes over 5 main geographical locations over 3 years. The challenges of working in a peninsula with a limited supply chain together with a buoyant building programme threatened the delivery of these schemes. The outputs will future proof the County’s road network to 2030 and beyond. The schemes were spread over a round trip of >150 miles. Many schemes required planning consent or had consent that would lapse. Timescales for delivery were challenging and funding could be lost if not achieved. Finally many schemes were located on main commuter routes with a need to maintain peak hour traffic capacity during the works. Cost certainty is a prime concern due to budget pressures. Works are ongoing.
