NEC boosts industry support in new year
NEC’s suite of collaborative contracts lies at the core of the Hong Kong government’s drive to transform the construction industry, having been adopted in 2016 as its default procurement mechanism for public-sector works and maintenance projects.
By improving professionalism and changing behaviour from confrontation to collaboration, NEC is helping to ensure that public-sector projects are delivered on time and within budget.
NEC support services
NEC’s adoption in Hong Kong is underpinned by a comprehensive range of support services provided by NEC, including training and official accreditation of NEC professionals. The local NEC Users’ Group also arranges a series of knowledge-sharing sessions in conjunction with universities, professional institutions and associations, helping users get maximum benefit from the contracts.
We also offer young professionals an opportunity to learn how NEC contracts are being applied on Hong Kong capital works projects, helping to increase their interest in early adoption.
New training programmes
In addition to official NEC training and accreditation for NEC4 and NEC3 ECC project managers and supervisors, which entitles inclusion on the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Register for Accredited NEC Professionals, we are introducing both public and in-house training on the NEC Term Service Contract (TSC) and Professional Service Contract (PSC) in 2019.
Challenging year ahead
We believe greater knowledge and use of NEC contracts, with their obligation on parties to work in a ‘spirit of mutual trust and co-operation’, will help to ensure the Hong Kong construction industry continues to thrive. Certainly the Year of the Pig will be a challenging one for Hong Kong. I would therefore like to wish all NEC users in Hong Kong a happy, healthy and successful new year.
