Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, officially opened the £46 million NEC-procured British Airways i360 tourist attraction in Brighton, UK in October 2016. The 162 m tall structure is the world’s first vertical cable car, the tallest moving observation tower and the most slender tower ever built. ‘Flights’ on the 18 m diameter glass observation pod carry up to 200 passengers up and down the 3.9 m diameter steel tower every half hour.

Crossrail is one of the largest infrastructure projects of its kind currently being undertaken in Europe. It is building 42km of tunnels, 10 new stations and improving 30 more. The finished railway, which will be named the Elizabeth line when it opens in central London in 2018, will be a fully accessible route of 40 stations from Reading and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.

Completed in 2015, the £13 million NEC-procured building achieved an energy performance certificate rating of A – highly unusual for a building with a swimming pool – leading to it winning the Low Carbon Construction Award in the 2016 British Construction Industry Awards.
