NEC Asia Pacific Users’ Group 2024 workshop attracts over 70 delegates

This year’s NEC Asia Pacific Users’ Group workshop was held at Pinsent Masons’ Hong Kong office in June 2024. More than 70 delegates attended.

The half-day event consisted of two sessions to facilitate a discussion on ‘carrots and sticks in contracts’ and ‘defects, completion and take over’.

In the first session, Pinsent Masons partner Mohammed Talib gave a presentation on how most construction contracts are set up to punish failure but many project failures in the industry are seen.

He then reviewed how the NEC helps as a good project management tool to provide measures of promoting reward, such as delivering value, building partnerships, encouraging innovation and technology, and rewarding sustainable and green building methods.

The second session, delivered by NEC Users’ Group secretary Robert Gerrard, ran through the meanings and interaction of the defects, completion and the process of take over by focusing on the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC).
