Asia-Pacific conference to be biggest yet

This year’s NEC Asia-Pacific Users’ Group annual conference looks like being the largest regional NEC event so far. A significant number of delegates have already registered for the one-day conference, which is on Friday 29 September 2017 at the Cordis Hotel in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Entitled ‘NEC3 to NEC4: from partnership to collaboration’, the event will provide a valuable insight into the recently launched NEC4 suite of contracts and explain how NEC3 users can start to make the transition. With NEC3 now the default contract suite for public-sector works procurement in Hong Kong, there is strong industry interest in the conference.

Also included will be case studies of user experiences on major NEC projects in the region, plus a series of in-depth practical workshops on tendering and new aspects of NEC4 delivered by NEC4 drafters.

Eminent speakers

Eminent speakers at the event will include Hon Chi-keung, permanent secretary for development (works) at the Hong Kong government’s Development Bureau and chairman of the NEC Asia-Pacific Users’ Group; Albert Cheng, executive director of the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council; and Wang Yanhua, director of China Road and Bridge Corporation–Build King joint venture.

There will also be presentations from contract experts John Hughes D’Aeth of Berwin Leighton Paisner, Ian Heaphy of IN Construction Consulting, independent legal consultant Art McInnis, Ben Walker of Cemar, NEC Users’ Group secretary Robert Gerrard and ICE's executive director Chris Gibson.

Celebrating awards

The conference will conclude by sharing the success stories of recent NEC Award winners from the region. These were the Hong Kong Development Bureau, which was voted 2017 NEC Client of the Year, and the Hong Kong Drainage Services Department, which won the NEC Contract Innovation Award.

Local contractors Paul Y Construction and CRBC-Build King joint venture were also highly commended for the NEC Contractor of the Year Award.
