PSC chosen for Stonehenge bypass design

PSC chosen for Stonehenge bypass design

Highways England has appointed Aecom under an NEC3 Professional Services Contract (PSC) as technical partner for the £1.4 billion A303 Stonehenge bypass scheme.

The eight-year consultancy contract, worth up to £50 million, is for preliminary design, planning and technical assurance of the detailed design and construction. Mouchel and Mace will work as supply chain partners to Aecom.

The existing 11km single carriageway section of the A303 between Amesbury and Berwick Down bisects the Stonehenge World Heritage site and passes within 100 m of the 5000-year-old monument. It is also a notorious traffic bottleneck.

The proposed option is to replace the single-carriageway with a new 11 km dual carriageway running further to the south and including a 3 km long tunnel. Construction is due to start in 3 years’ time
