2022 Changes to the NEC Project Manager Accreditation assessment

2022 Changes to the NEC Project Manager Accreditation assessment

The NEC Project Manager Accreditation (PMA) is recognised worldwide and it’s renowned as an NEC Gold Standard. The accreditation gives confidence to clients that practitioners are competent in fulfilling the requirements of the NEC project leadership role.

Starting from 1 January 2022, NEC will introduce changes to the NEC4 PMA’s assessment model. Instead of its original two stage approach, the test will now be conducted through a series of complex multiple-choice questions. Switching to an objective style assessment will allow the NEC to test how well delegates can apply knowledge to different contexts.

The new approach is guided by the principles of fairness, flexibility and rigour. This sets a robust platform to challenge our delegates while creating a low-threat learning environment.

The NEC continues to look at ways to improve its learning portfolio and further enhance delegates’ learning journey, building on its commitment to quality and high standards.

New Assessment Quick Look

  • The questions in the assessment are divided into 7 sections (A to G)
  • Five of the sections come with a scenario
  • There is four hours of total time available to complete the assessment, divided into two sittings of two hours each.
  • Each sitting has a fixed duration, and once started cannot be paused
  • The first sitting must be completed to access the second sitting
  • No partial score is given on completion of the first sitting
  • There is only one attempt to pass the assessment
