Over the past few months NEC has continued to make strides with its range of products and services in the global arena. Below I outline a number of new international initiatives.
Moving into Latin America
In March 2025 we were excited to launch the first-ever international language translation of the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC), its user guides and training in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) for Peru at the British Embassy in Lima.
We have already seen, in the words of the British Ambassador, Gavin Cook OBE, ‘huge success from the PanAm Games to Bicentennial schools’ as a result of the NEC4 suite of contracts being adopted in Peru.
The new translation represents our commitment to the wider adoption across Latin America, easing implementation across the whole region. The milestone launch event was accompanied by training sessions for government officials and ministries, equipping them with the knowledge to transition from traditional procurement methods to NEC’s collaborative approach. We also went live with the new LatAm Spanish-language microsite, which will feature selected NEC contracts, user guides and training as they become available in translation, along with access to case studies and other key resources.
Reinforcing Asia Pacific
NEC has released an updated set of Y clauses for use with the NEC4 suite of contracts in Australia, aligning them with the changes in security of payment legislation introduced in 2024 and reflecting NEC’s commitment to supporting their growing use in the region.
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) in Singapore recently published new W and Z clauses for use with the NEC4 ECC. These were jointly developed by the BCA and NEC to provide a structured framework tailored to the local regulatory and contractual landscape.
A shift in global training
It is easy to think of training as something you do at the start of a project or as a box-ticking exercise. But across the international NEC Users’ Group community, we are seeing a shift. Teams are using training more strategically to build confidence, unlock delivery consistency and address emerging risks across live projects.
NEC training has been evolving across the world to reflect that. Whether it is onboarding new teams, equipping users to manage NEC projects, or preparing project leaders for accreditation, the focus has shifted from just understanding the contract to using it effectively under pressure.
We are also working with clients on tailored support, from modular digital content to in-house workshops, that targets specific challenges such as compensation events, programme management or scope clarity. And through our accreditation pathways, particularly the ECC project manager accreditation, we are helping organisations set a clear standard for competence.
If you are building a team to get involved in NEC projects, now is the time to think beyond awareness. The real value of training lies in building the confidence and consistency needed to navigate complexity, make good decisions and keep projects on track, both contractually and practically.
