Matthew is a commercial director with Costain responsible for projects in the rail sector. He is a chartered surveyor and fellow of the chartered institute of arbitrators. Matthew’s experience includes a wide range of engineering projects across the UK, he specialises in commercial strategy and dispute avoidance, and providing advice on NEC contracts. He is a NEC board member and part of the NEC4 drafting team.

Mark Doherty, Commercial and Contract Manager for Yorkshire Water Services. Mark works primarily at the pre-contract stage with a focus on developing new contracts and commercial arrangement for use by his colleagues in the delivery of capital projects, repair and maintenance, term services and professional services. Mark provides training and advice to colleagues when initiating these new contracts. Mark has previous experience as a consultant and have acted as ECC Project Manager on a couple of occasions but the bulk of his experience is from the Client side having spent a number of years as a Client PM delivering capital projects for Yorkshire Water Services.

Julie is a Partner in the construction and engineering team at Gunnercooke LLP, an international law firm.

Julie has 32 years’ experience as a specialist construction and engineering lawyer. She has represented engineers in arbitration proceedings on a variety of infrastructure and oil and gas projects in the Middle East and Africa, including dams, bridges, airports, rail and roads, as well as disputes through the English courts. Over the last 15 years Julie has also advised on the drafting and interpretation of construction and engineering contracts acting for a diverse range of construction clients and projects and has run her own consultancy business advising international engineering companies based in Pau, South-West France.

On dispute avoidance, Julie actively encourages and promotes all forms of conflict limitation in contracts and in the resolution of disputes. She is UK Country Representative of the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation https://www.drb.org/ a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the avoidance and resolution of disputes worldwide through the use of dispute boards. Julie is also Honorary Secretary of the Society of Construction Arbitrators and has been a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators for 25 years.

Nisha is an experienced Commercial Leader and PMO infrastructure professional with over 15 years’ experience in rail, highways, aviation, arts and culture, sports and events programmes. Nisha joined Mace as Head of Commercial and Financial Assurance for the Major Programmes & Infrastructure (MP&I) consultancy and was the functional lead responsible for commercial operations management of all programmes within the MP&I business unit.

Following this, Nisha was appointed as Commercial Lead at the London Legacy Development Corporation (an organisation established by the UK government) to support the delivery of the £1.2bn Culture and Education District programme of works as part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy works. She also later took on the role as Project Delivery lead for the University College London (UCL) project on behalf of LLDC.

Nisha is currently supporting the leadership teams for the Lima 2019 Pan American games and managing the implementation of a legacy programme to support successful delivery of future programmes of work across Peru and South America.
