NEC Contracts and Project 13 publish new guidance on NEC for Enterprise models

NEC Contracts and Project 13 have jointly published new guidance on the use of the NEC4 suite within Enterprise models, bringing together practitioner experience from a wide range of international cross-infrastructure case studies.

The guidance, developed by a cross-industry group convened by both organisations, draws on real-world learning from established Enterprise adopters to help future users understand how NEC4 contracts can underpin effective enterprise arrangements. It has been formally approved by the NEC Contract Board.

Enterprise models are increasingly being adopted across infrastructure as a means of improving integration, collaboration and value delivery. This paper consolidates experience from across the sector to address nine key areas of Enterprise operation: the role of the Owner, integration, governance, implementation planning, relational contracting, the Enterprise commercial model, ecosystem engagement, digital and data agreements, and assurance plans.

The guidance focuses particularly on how the NEC4 Framework Contract (FC), NEC4 Alliance Contract (ALC) and FAC-1 Framework Alliance Contract can be applied within enterprise, and how key aspects of Enterprise operation should be reflected within the contract arrangements that underpin it.

Dale Evans, Chair of Project 13, said:

The experience of the group has also highlighted that the intent within the NEC suite to enable effective integration and collaboration aligns well with Enterprise thinking."

Ian Heaphy, NEC Contract Board member, added:

This paper demonstrates how NEC4 contracts can act as an enabler for these models. It details how the comprehensive, flexible suite of contracts allows all key members of the Enterprise to be engaged on a consistent set of contracts that drive better programme and contract management outcomes, ensuring the intent of the Enterprise model is embedded into the contract arrangements that underpin it."
