Join us for this webinar from Barry Trebes and Gren Tipper as we look back at the first major use of NEC: the Heathrow Express.

This was first major use of the what was then known as the New Engineering Contract (NEC) in the UK in 1993.

During construction on the 21st October 1994, a notable tunnel collapse occurred including the subsidence of a surface building, leading to a six-month delay in opening and additional costs of around £150 million. Some writers at the time blamed the use of the New Engineering Contract but in fact the ethos of collaborative working was instrumental in turning the largest civil engineering disaster in the UK in the 20th century into one huge success.

The webinar will discuss the experiences of working under the NEC contract, why it was used, the challenges faced and the lessons learned. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions of Barry and Gren at the end of the webinar.
