Lima 2019 Athlete's Village on Schedule with NEC Contracts
The NEC-procured Athletes Village for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan America Games is on schedule for completion in February 2019, five months before the opening ceremony. Chilean contractor Besco-Besalco is designing and building seven multi-storey apartment blocks at Villa El Salvador under an NEC3 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) Option F (management contract). The Peruvian government appointed the UK Department for International Trade in April 2017 to provide support on the delivery of around £400 million of venues and facilities for the games using NEC contracts. DIT engaged Arup and Mace to provide technical and construction management support respectively.
The Pan American and Parapan America Games consist of thousands of athletes from countries in the Americas and the Caribbean collectively. It runs every four years and it occurs one year before the Summer Olympics is scheduled to be held. The Pan American and Parapan America Games are governed by the Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO) who are in charge of selecting a host city for each of the games. Since 2007 host cities are contracted to manage both of games. Lima 2019 is the XVIII edition of the games.
