Delivery of Strategic Business Plan investing in the future of the railway.
Integrated Delivery Model
Anglian Route Collaboration, (ARC) is a collaborative delivery organisation comprising Network Rail, VolkerFitzpatrick and Atkins whose objective is to deliver the Strategic Business Plan for the Anglian Route. Collaboration is supported through the use of the NEC framework contract and ECC call-off contracts.
Early contractor involvement is utilised to develop project solutions during the early stages of a project. Significant benefits are realised from the implementation of robust design, planning and constructability reviews early in the project life cycle drawing on the expertise of the delivery teams.
Formed and developed under the principles of BS11000, a co-located team is based in Stratford. The client, design and delivery teams are co-located enabling effective communication through the use of shared offices creating a real team identity with ARC. Our mission statement reinforces our commitment. “Excellence through collaboration”
Adopting and implementing BS11000 supports and complements the NEC Framework contract we operate under. It provides a meaningful way to measure and improve the overall performance of the ARC partners.
The collaborative nature of the ARC has enabled all of the parties to appoint the right person for specific roles within the delivery team irrespective of their employer. This move, away from traditional man marking, as already lead to reduced overhead management costs and greater team integration.
Visualisation, Collaboration and Co-location
The use of visualisation boards has been successfully implemented to support and open and transparent methods of communication.
ARC is determined to demonstrate efficiency and provide real benefit without compromising safety to deliver a range of asset renewal and standalone schemes that will enhance the Anglia network. The NEC contract enables us to focus on these goals and ensure we focus on our objective to maintain or improve the overall reliability and frequency of passenger and freight services across the route.
As an example within the structures portfolio, through further investigation and analysis under the guidance and principles of the NEC contract we have identified approximately £10m of potential efficiency.
"The project demonstrates a strong integration of roles, incorporating Early Contractor Involvement and BS 11000 principles, to achieve collaboration supported by the use of the NEC3 to focus on delivering excellence."
